⭕As part of its societal and developmental role, the Faculty of Specific Education at Zagazig University, and its commitment to supporting continuing education and empowering various segments of society, and under the auspices of Professor Dr. Khaled El-Darandaly, President of the University, Professor Dr. Hanan El-Nahhas, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Professor Dr. Ehab El-Beblawy, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Professor Dr. Helal Afifi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Akmal Shawky, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, and Professor Dr. Ahmed Badie, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, organized a specialized awareness seminar entitled "Together Against Illiteracy in the Digital Age... Steps and Procedures for Participating in the Literacy Project." The seminar was held on Monday, February 16, 2026, in Lecture Hall (B), and was organized by the Faculty's Training Unit, headed by Professor Dr. Taghreed Barakat, Director of the Unit, in cooperation with the Literacy and Adult Education Unit, headed by Professor Dr. Hala El-Gallad.
The event was attended by Professor Dr. Ahmed Badie, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Dr. Safinaz Samir, Acting Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and Head of the Home Economics Department; Professor Dr. Abdel-Azim Al-Atwani, former Dean of the Faculty; Professor Dr. Taghreed Barakat, Director of the Faculty's Training Unit; Professor Dr. Hala Al-Jallad, Coordinator of the Faculty's Literacy Unit; Professor Dr. Shaimaa Fathi, Head of the Educational Media Department; and a number of faculty members, teaching assistants, and students from all departments and academic levels.
The seminar was delivered by Professor Dr. Mohamed Abdullah Al-Faqi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Community Service and Environmental Development and Director of the Adult Education Unit at Zagazig University. He reviewed the steps and mechanisms for participating in the project, emphasizing the university and faculty's commitment to providing various forms of support to participating students to ensure they benefit fully from the experience. He also urged students to actively engage and seize the opportunities the project offers to develop their practical and academic skills.
⭕ In the same context, Professor Louay Abdullah Mohammed Salim, Senior Education Specialist at the General Authority for Adult Education, Sharqia Branch, expressed his appreciation for the constructive cooperation with the university and the college, noting that higher education institutions are a fundamental pillar in the success of the project. He affirmed that the Authority provides technical and supervisory support to students, contributing to achieving the desired goals and raising performance and quality standards.
In a statement, Professor Dr. Akmal Shawky, Dean of the College, emphasized that the issue of literacy is a national priority requiring concerted efforts, stressing that the university is not merely an educational institution, but a key partner in development and human capacity building. He added that the college dedicates its scientific and human resources to serving national initiatives and works to prepare students who possess awareness, responsibility, and the ability to make a real impact on their communities. ⭕For his part, Professor Dr. Ahmed Badie, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development, explained that the seminar reflects the college's commitment to translating its community strategy into actionable programs. He pointed out that participation in literacy projects provides students with in-depth field experience and cultivates in them a spirit of giving and belonging, in line with the state's direction towards sustainable development.
⭕Professors Dr. Taghreed Barakat and Dr. Hala El-Gallad also addressed the academic and training dimensions of supporting literacy plans. They emphasized that the relevant units within the college operate according to an integrated vision that combines academic qualification, practical training, and building partnerships with relevant entities, ensuring the sustainability of efforts and achieving measurable results.
⭕The seminar concluded with attendees affirming that the battle for awareness is no less important than any other battle, and that Egyptian universities possess the human and intellectual resources that qualify them to lead this endeavor efficiently and effectively, in the journey of a nation striving steadily towards a brighter and more developed future.
